Baltimore, Md. (April 20, 2012) – Despite four points from senior midfielder Ali Steinberg (Suffern, N.Y.), the Rutgers women’s lacrosse team could not pull off the upset at No. 14 Loyola, dropping a 15-11 decision at Ridley Athletic Complex Friday night. Steinberg surpasses the century mark for her career with 102 points on 74 goals and 28 assists.

Sophomore midfielder Lauren Sbrilli (Martinsville, N.J.) added her sixth hat trick of the season with three scores for RU (9-6, 4-3). Loyola (9-5, 5-0) was led by Marlee Paton with five goals and four assists.

Rutgers got out to a hot start, scoring the first four goals of the contest. Sbrilli scored twice in the run and senior attack Brittany Davis (Wading River, N.Y.) buried a free position shot to give RU a 4-0 lead with 19:29 to play in the first half. Loyola would answer quickly, posting three-straight scores to come within one, 4-3, at the 13:59 mark.

The Scarlet Knights registered two of the next three goals, but the Greyhounds came back with two scores of their own to knot the game at six with 8:08 remaining in the half. The two squads would trade goals for the remainder of the half, going into the break knotted at nine.

Junior midfielder Stephanie Anderson (Wading River, N.Y.) corralled a pass from Annie McGinley (Moorestown, N.J.) to open up the second-half scoring, giving the Scarlet Knights a 10-9 advantage before the Greyhounds rattled off four-straight goals to post a 13-10 lead with nine minutes remaining. Steinberg ripped a free position goal with 4:25 to play, bringing Rutgers within two, 13-11. Loyola would score the final two tallies of the half to account for the final score.

RU hits the road for its final regular season contest at No. 15 Georgetown. The Scarlet Knights and Hoyas meet Saturday, April 28 at 1 p.m. on CBS Sports Network.
