Baltimore, Md. (April 18, 2012) – Heading into its final two games of the regular season, the Rutgers women’s lacrosse team (9-5, 4-2 BIG EAST) heads to No. 14 Loyola (Md.) this Friday, April 20. Game time is set for 7 p.m. at Ridley Athletic Complex. The contest will be streamed live via www.LoyolaGreyhounds.com at no charge to fans.
RU is coming off wins over Louisville (16-11) and Cincinnati (13-10) over the weekend. Senior attack Danielle Mascera (Verona, N.J.) dished out three assists versus Cincinnati to break the 32-year-old RU single season assist record with 31 for the season. Sophomore midfielder Lauren Sbrilli (Martinsville, N.J.) paced the Scarlet Knights against the Bearcats with three goals, while senior midfielder Ali Steinberg (Suffern, N.Y.) notched six points in the win over the Cardinals.
Junior midfielder Stephanie Anderson (Wading River, N.Y.) leads Rutgers with 37 goals this season. Steinberg has posted 28 goals and 15 assists for 43 points to pace RU through 14 games. The midfielder is just two points shy of the century mark for her career.
Rutgers is tied 3-3 in the all-time series with Loyola. Last season, goalkeeper Lily Kalata (Nesconset, N.Y.) registered nine saves, but the then-No. 6 Greyhounds were too much for the Scarlet Knights, downing RU, 15-6.
Loyola (8-4, 4-0 BIG EAST) is looking to bounce back from a 17-10 loss to No. 15 Cornell. Sophomore midfielder Marlee Paton leads the Greyhounds with 28 goals (10th in the BIG EAST) and 22 assists (fourth) for 50 points (fourth) on the season. Senior goalkeeper Kerry Stoothoff maintains a 9.92 GAA and a .442 save percentage between the pipes. Head coach Jen Adams is currently in her fourth season with Loyola. Adams currently holds a 47-20 overall record with the Greyhounds.
