  • PISCATAWAY, NJ – The Rutgers women’s lacrosse team has unveiled its schedule for the 2004 spring season. The Scarlet Knights will play a total of 17 games in the spring, including seven home dates at both the Rutgers Stadium Complex and Yurcak Soccer/Lacrosse Stadium.

In all, Rutgers will face four teams that reached the NCAA Championship in 2003. Besides its six-game BIG EAST schedule, RU will take on 11 non-conference teams in 2004.

Rutgers begins its challenging schedule with an exhibition date against 2003 NCAA Tournament semifinalist Loyola on Feb. 22. The Scarlet Knights’ first home match will be on Feb. 28, as they officially begin the season against Northwestern of the American Lacrosse Conference.

Following Northwestern, Rutgers will have a pair of road contests at Hofstra (3/2) and Delaware (3/6). The Scarlet Knights return home for two games with Pennsylvania (3/10) and 12th-ranked Cornell before embarking on a three-game road trip against conference foes Virginia Tech (3/19) and Georgetown (3/28) and Patriot League opponent Villanova (3/31). The Hoyas advanced to the NCAA Tournament quarterfinal round last season.

Rutgers begins the second half of its schedule at home against NCAA Tournament participant Syracuse on April 3, before traveling to 2003 Ivy League champion Yale, an NCAA Tournament quarterfinalist last season, on April 7. The Scarlet Knights’ upset the 14th–ranked Bulldogs, 15-12, at home last season.

A pair of BIG EAST road games against Connecticut (4/10) and Boston College (4/16) surround a home date with Saint Joseph’s (4/13) of the Atlantic Ten Conference.

The final regular season trip of the season finds the Scarlet Knights at New Hampshire (4/18). Rutgers wraps up its regular season at home with No. 16 Notre Dame (4/25) and No. 19 (Old Dominion (4/27).

Rutgers finished the 2003 season 12-4 overall and 3-3 in the BIG EAST under the direction of BIG EAST Women’s Lacrosse Coach of the Year Laura Brand, in her first year with the Scarlet Knights.
