PISCATAWAY, NJ - Three members of the Rutgers men's lacrosse team have earned 2003 STX/USILA All-American Honorable Mention honors, as the teams were released on Monday at the national championship game (won by Virginia, 9-7) at M&T Bank Stadium. This marks the first time a Scarlet Knight has been named to the USILA All-America team since Keith Cromwell was named to the second team in 2001.
The three honorable mentions from Rutgers are senior midfielder Jeff Duca (Fair Lawn, NJ), junior attack Delby Powless (Six Nations, Ontario) and freshman goalie Greg Havalchak (Corning, NY). The three led the Scarlet Knight to the best turnaround in Division I lacrosse this season, posting a 10-5 overall record and 3-2 mark in the ECAC, after going 2-12 overall last year and 0-5 in the ECAC. Powless (32 G, 4 A) and Duca (30 G, 4 A) led the offense with 36 and 34 total points, respectively. Havalchak, though just a freshman, was one of the most dominant goalies in the nation, finishing the season ranked fourth in the nation with a .627 save percentage and tied for 12th with a 7.55 goals-against average.
This marks the second postseason honors for all three Scarlet Knights, as all three were also named to the All-ECAC First Team on May 9.
