  • PISCATAWAY, NJ - The Rutgers men’s lacrosse team (10-4) received a bid to the 16-team NCAA Division I Men’s Lacrosse Championships and will host ECAC rival Georgetown (10-3) at Yurcak Field in the first round of the tournament on Sunday, May 11 at 1:00pm. Rutgers was one of 9 teams to gain an at-large bid into the field.

The NCAA Division I Men’s Lacrosse Championships field, which includes six conference champions who received automatic bids, was set during Sunday night’s NCAA selection show. This is the first time since 1991 that Rutgers has been selected to play in the NCAA Tournament, and the program’s eighth overall appearance in the tournament. Rutgers is 2-7 all-time in the NCAA Tournament, gaining wins in 1990 and 1986.

Rutgers and Georgetown met earlier this season, with Rutgers falling by a score of 8-4 on Saturday, April 26, in Washington, DC. Georgetown has won all five meetings between the two schools in a series that began in 1999.

After a 2-12 season in 2002, Rutgers rebounded to notch a 10-4 record this season, 3-2 in the ECAC. The 10 wins are the most wins for Rutgers since the 1990 team went 10-5 and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The season included wins over five ranked teams and two top-five teams. RU defeated No. 3 UMass at home on May 3 and won at No. 4 Syracuse on April 11. The other ranked teams RU defeated included No. 13 Towson, No. 10 Navy and No. 17 UMBC.
