  • PISCATAWAY, NJ – The No. 3 Princeton Tigers scored three goals in the span of 51 seconds in the fourth quarter to earn a hard-fought, 10-8, victory against No. 9 Rutgers tonight at Yurcak Field. The loss was the Scarlet Knights’ (7-1) first of the season. Princeton (3-2) has now won 14 consecutive meetings between the in-state rivals.

Rutgers answered by shutting out the Tigers for the rest of the third quarter and into the final stanza, while netting four consecutive goals to take an 8-7 lead with 10:40 left to play. Junior Matt Apel (Bridgewater, NJ) started the run with a goal 2:00 into the third quarter. The teams went scoreless for the next 13:46 until Schmidt got things started again with his second goal of the game 0:46 into the fourth quarter. Duca found the back of the net with 11:45 left, and junior Delby Powless (Hagersville, Ontario) added another tally just 1:05 later to give RU the 8-7 lead.

The lead would be short-lived as Princeton scored three consecutive goals in a span of just 51 seconds to take a 10-8 lead with 8:17 left.
