JUPITER, FL – The Rutgers men’s lacrosse team moved to 7-0 today with an 8-5 victory over Vermont (1-4), on a hot and humid day in Jupiter, Florida. With the victory, the Scarlet Knights tied the 1953 team's second-best start and move to within one win of tying the 1955 team's school-record best start.
Leading the way for RU were senior Jeff Duca (Fair Lawn, NJ), sophomore Leif Blomquist (Long Beach, NY) and freshman Austin Rodgers (Towson, MD), who all tallied two goals in the contest. Rodgers and Blomquist also added a one assist apiece. Junior Tim White (Rockville Center, NY) added a goal and an assist, while sophomore John Flanagan (Smithtown, NY) netted one goal and added one assist.
In goal, freshman Greg Havalchak (Corning, NY) stopped 12 shots while allowing just five goals.
The Scarlet Knights will return to action on Tuesday, March 25, at home against
in-state rival Princeton. The Tigers are currently ranked seventh in the latest
USILA Poll (March 17). Rutgers has not defeated Princeton since the 1989 season,
a 10-7 victory on the road. Since that game, the Tigers have won 13 consecutive
meetings, including 16-6 last season in Princeton. The game will begin at 7
p.m. at Yurcak Field.
