Powless scored seven goals to lead the No. 13 Scarlet Knights to a 13-9 victory over No. 10 Navy on Saturday, March 15, in Annapolis, MD. The seven goals are the most tallied by a Scarlet Knight in 19 years, since Bill Naslonski (1981-84) scored seven times against Syracuse in 1984.
Through six games, Powless leads the team with 19 goals and 20 total points. His two best games have come against the best competition, as 11 of his 19 goals have come against ranked teams. He began his Rutgers career with four goals, including the game-winner in overtime, against No. 13 Towson on Feb. 23.
Powless is currently third in the ECAC with an average of 3.16 goals per game. His 3.33 points per game ranks seventh in the conference.
Powless is the third Scarlet Knight to earn an ECAC Weekly Award this season, as freshman goalie Greg Havalchak (Corning, NY) was named ECAC Rookie of the Week on March 3 and sophomore Leif Blomquist (Long Beach, NY) was named Offensive Player of the Week on March 10.
Powless and the Scarlet Knights will look to improve its record to 7-0 this weekend against Vermont, at Jupiter Community Park in Florida. A 7-0 start would match the second-best start in school history, along with the 1953 team. The best start in school history belongs to the 1955 team, which started the season 8-0.
