PISCATAWAY, NJ - Tad Stanwick (Baltimore, MD), a freshmen attackmen on the Rutgers men’s lacrosse team, has been named the ECAC Rookie of the Week for his performance last Saturday against No. 12 Syracuse, the league office announced today.
Stanwick scored the game-tying goal with 12 seconds left in regulation as Rutgers successfully fought back from a 12-8 fourth quarter deficit to force overtime. Stanwick’s goal came after Jeff Rommel (Syracuse, NY) took a shot that bounced past the goal, but Stanwick was in position to corral the ball and he fired a shot from in close that beat SU goalie Peter Coluccini.
Rutgers has been well-represented on the ECAC Weekly honors list this spring, as senior goalie Greg Havalchak (Corning, NY) was the Defensive Player of the Week on March 25 and Mike Dugan (Summit, NJ) was the Rookie of the Week. On April 3, freshman Chris O’Dougherty (Kinnelon, NJ) was the Rookie of the Week.
Stanwick has started all 10 games thus far and has four goals and four assists for eight points. He had 72 points for talent-laden Boys’ Latin in 2005, helping the team to the No. 3 national ranking and 18-2 record.
The Scarlet Knights return to action on Saturday, April 22, when they travel to State College, PA, to face 14th-ranked Penn State (6-3, 4-1 ECAC) at noon.
