PISCATAWAY, NJ – Delby Powless (Hagersville, Ontario), of the Rutgers men’s lacrosse team, has been named the ECAC Riddell Offensive Player of the Week, the league office announced today.
Powless scored 10 goals last week for the Scarlet Knights, as RU registered a pair of convincing victories. Against Saint Joseph’s on March 10, Powless had three goals as Rutgers defeated the Hawks, 10-3, at Finnesey Field. Three days later against Quinnipiac on March 15, Powless had seven goals, which is tied for the fourth highest total in single-game school history. He scored six of his goals during the first half as Rutgers raced out to a 15-2 halftime lead and registered a 17-4 triumph.
Through four games, Powless leads the ECAC with 14 goals and 17 points. Rutgers’ leading scorer last season with 36 points (32 goals, four assists), Powless has scored at least two goals in 12 of the last 19 games. Last Saturday’s seven-goal outing was the second time in his career he netted seven goals (at Navy, 3/15/03).
The Scarlet Knights, currently ranked fourth in the USILA coaches poll and Inside Lacrosse media poll, return to action on Saturday, March 20, when they travel to West Point, NY, to face 19th-ranked Army.
