PISCATAWAY, N.J. (Nov. 14, 2013) – Members of the Rutgers men’s lacrosse team visited The Bristol-Myers Squibb Children’s Hospital (BMSCH) at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital (RWJUH) on Thursday, Nov. 13 and spent more than two hours with the kids and teens.

“As we grow our program on the field, it is great to see our players develop relationships in the Rutgers community,” said head coach Brian Brecht. “Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital is a block away from campus and many of our players are neighbors to the hospital. We ask an awful lot of our guys in and out of season and it was nice to see them spend their day off bringing smiles, laughter and conversation to so many children and teens today. I am extremely proud of them as student-athletes, but more importantly as young men.”

BMSCH at RWJUH is a regional resource for specialized pediatric care. From the moment patients come through the door, they experience the difference. Comforting spaces, child-friendly design and unique special touches make children and their families feel at home.

“I thought my group of guys and the people we met with had a great connection,” said senior captain Anthony Terranova. “We forget how good we really have it sometimes. Anything could happen at any time, so we need to embrace every day and not take things for granted. It was an amazing experience and I truly hope we schedule another visit soon.”

Pediatric patients admitted to BMSCH at RWJUH are welcomed into one of the inpatient units, based on severity of illness, treatment needs and age. In each unit, a skilled team of professionals maintains the highest standards of care 24-hours-a-day, seven-days-a-week. The inpatient units range from neonatal to pediatric intensive care, general medical/surgical units and specialized hematology/oncology units. In addition, they have a brand new state of the art Pediatric Operating Suites and recovery rooms specially designed for children. As well their Pediatric Emergency Department solely dedicated to the care of children.
