PISCATAWAY, N.J. (Jan. 14, 2013) – Former Rutgers men’s lacrosse midfielder Will Mangan (Maplewood, N.J.) has been traded from Major League Lacrosse’s New York Lizards to the Denver Outlaws. The Outlaws sent attackman Mark Matthews to the Lizards for Mangan and the 29th overall pick in the MLL Draft, which took place on Friday, Jan. 11.

Mangan, a 2012 graduate of Rutgers, is coming off his first summer as a member of the Lizards. The Maplewood, N.J., native played in seven games for New York in 2012, scoring eight goals and tallying three assists for 11 points. He also collected nine ground balls.

Mangan joins two other former Rutgers lacrosse players Chris O’Dougherty (2006-09) and Justin Pennington (2007-10) on the Outlaws. Chris Mattes, who also played lacrosse for the Scarlet Knights and graduated in 2011, played for Denver in 2012, but recently got picked up by the Boston Cannons for the 2013 season.

The former Scarlet Knight co-captain completed an outstanding senior campaign in 2012, which included recognition as the BIG EAST Midfielder of the Year and a United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) All-America Honorable Mention. As a senior, he led Rutgers with 40 points, including a team-high 30 goals, and finished second on the team with 46 ground balls.

Mangan additionally received USILA Scholar All-America and BIG EAST First Team honors. He represented RU in the USILA/LaxWorld North-South Classic on May 25, recording one goal and one assist.
