PISCATAWAY, N.J. (June 6, 2012) – Former Rutgers men’s lacrosse midfielder Will Mangan (Maplewood, N.J.) was picked up off the waiver wire by Major League Lacrosse’s Long Island Lizards, it was announced Wednesday. The Scarlet Knight co-captain completed an outstanding senior campaign in 2012, which included recognition as the BIG EAST Midfielder of the Year and a United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) All-America Honorable Mention.
Mangan additionally received USILA Scholar All-America and BIG EAST First Team honors. He represented RU in the USILA/LaxWorld North-South Classic on May 25, recording one goal and one assist.
“I’m really excited for this opportunity,” Mangan said. “I’m thankful for my time I spent at Rutgers. I think it prepared me well for the next level.”
Mangan completed his final season “On the Banks” with his fifth hat trick of the year and sixth of his career at Georgetown on April 27. His three-goal, one-assist performance brought his senior totals to 40 points from 30 goals and 10 assists. Mangan finished second on the squad with 46 ground balls.
Mangan joins the team of assistant coach Keith Cromwell, a three-time All-America honoree at Rutgers from 1999-2001. Cromwell took the field for the Lizards from 2001-04 and has been active since 2006 with the squad. Mangan is eligible to play in week seven of the 2012 MLL season.
