PERRY, N.Y. (May 24, 2012) – Senior midfielder Will Mangan (Maplewood, N.J.) received All-America Honorable Mention recognition from the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA), it was announced Thursday. The latest award for Mangan joins the co-captain’s 2012 postseason haul of BIG EAST Midfielder of the Year, All-BIG EAST First Team honoree and USILA/LaxWorld North-South Classic participant.

First-year head coach Brian Brecht praised Mangan’s efforts from the past season, including his work as a leader of the program on and off the field.

“It has been a special season for Will, as he has earned every one of his postseason awards with all the time he has put into developing his game,” Brecht said. “Being recognized as an All-American is the highest honor he can achieve, and it is fitting that he finishes his career playing this weekend in the North-South Classic. I am proud of Will and excited for the future of Rutgers Lacrosse, which he has done such a great job being the ambassador of over the past year, as well as his entire career.”

Mangan finished his final regular season “On the Banks” with his fifth hat trick of the year and sixth of his career at Georgetown on April 27. His three-goal, one-assist performance brought his senior totals to 40 points from 30 goals and 10 assists. Mangan finished second on the squad in ground balls, scooping 46 ground balls.

With the honor, Mangan became the 131st Scarlet Knight to earn All-America accolades in program history. He is the first All-American coached by Brecht in his tenure at Rutgers. The Scarlet Knights’ leader has mentored five total All-Americans in his head coaching career.
