PERRY, N.Y. (May 24, 2012) – Senior midfielder Will Mangan (Maplewood, N.J.) has been selected as a member of the North Team for the 71st Annual USILA/LaxWorld North-South Senior Lacrosse Game, the organization announced Thursday. The highly regarded all-star event, played this year at Harvard Stadium in Cambridge, Mass. on Friday, May 25 at 5:30 p.m., features the top lacrosse players from around the nation. Mangan’s appearance marks the fourth-straight year a Scarlet Knight has played in the prestigious game.

First-year head coach Brian Brecht commented on Mangan’s selection, which joins the co-captain’s recognition as the BIG EAST Midfielder of the Year and an All-BIG EAST First Team honoree.

“This is great recognition for Will after having the season he had for Rutgers and earning all of his conference honors a few weeks ago,” Brecht said. “I am happy for Will as he is going to get one more game this weekend up in Boston to wear the Rutgers helmet and represent the North team, which is a tremendous honor.”

Mangan ended his career “On the Banks” with his fifth hat trick of the season and sixth of his career at Georgetown on April 27. His three-goal, one-assist performance brought his senior campaign total to 40 points from 30 goals and 10 assists. Mangan finished second on the squad in ground balls, scooping 46 ground balls.

The North-South Game began in 1940 and has featured at least one Rutgers representative in 60 of its 72 games all-time. Mangan is the first North-South selection of Brecht’s tenure “On the Banks”. Brecht has mentored four participants in the game in his head coaching career.
