Rutgers Men’s Lacrosse Drops Game at No. 15 Princeton

    Will Mangan, RU’s scoring leader, netted his 25th goal of the season.

    PRINCETON, N.J. (April 10, 2012) – The Rutgers men’s lacrosse team was unable to match No. 15 Princeton on Tuesday inside Class of 1952 Stadium, falling by a score of 13-4. The Scarlet Knights saw scoring plays executed by senior co-captain M Will Mangan (Maplewood, N.J), redshirt sophomore M Anthony Terranova (Flemington, N.J.), freshman M Brian Goss (Arlington Heights, Ill.) and sophomore M Joseph Stottler (Wantagh, N.J.).

    RU dropped to 5-7 overall with the result, while Princeton improved to 7-3 overall.

    Mangan, RU’s scoring leader, netted his 25th goal of the season to give the Scarlet Knights their first point, setting the score at 3-1 with 7:27 left in the second period. Rutgers battled Princeton up and down the field in the first half, yielding a 4-1 advantage to the Tigers at the break.

    The Scarlet Knights were on the scoreboard again on the first goal of the season by Terranova, who was assisted by sophomore D Nick Contino (Branchburg, N.J.). His effort at the 8:36 mark in the fourth period set the score at 10-2 in favor of the Tigers.

    RU scored twice more in the fourth period to set the final score at 13-4 to Princeton. Goss’ unassisted scoring play came with 6:15 left in the contest. With just six seconds remaining in the game, Stottler scored his first career goal to give RU its fourth point. 

    Contino and redshirt sophomore Christopher Zybrick (Kinnelon, N.J.) were active defensively for the Scarlet Knights, both recording three caused turnovers on the night. Sophomore A Nick DePaolera (Kinnelon, N.J.) led the team in ground balls, scooping five for a new career-high.

    Rutgers next heads to Charlotte, N.C., on Saturday, April 14 to take part in the ESPNU Warrior Classic. The Scarlet Knights match up against Syracuse at 11 a.m. in the nationally broadcast game.
