NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Rutgers freshman Danae Johnson (Silver Spring, Md.) scored a 9.025 to place 12th in the finals of the floor exercise at the USA Gymnastics Collegiate Nationals. The three-day meet, held inside the James Moore Field House on the campus of Southern Connecticut State, culminated Saturday with the final rounds of each of the four events.
Johnson posted a 9.650 in the floor exercise in Thursday’s competition to reach Saturday’s final round. The score also garnered the freshman First Team All-America honors by finishing 10th in the event during Thursday’s competition.
Johnson was one of six Scarlet Knights to compete at the USA Gymnastics Collegiate Nationals, joining freshman Nicole Schwartz (Somerset, N.J.), sophomores Kiah Banfield (Newbury Park, Calif.) and Maddie Zwiebel (Bridgewater, N.J.), junior Alyssa Lewandowski (Linden, N.J.) and senior Kristy Behr (Northport, N.Y.). Johnson was the lone Scarlet Knight to reach Saturday’s final round.
