Johnson Earns First Team All-American Honors At USA Gymnastics Collegiate Nationals

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Freshman Danae Johnson (Silver Spring, Md.) earned First Team All-America honors during competition at the first day at the USA Gymnastics Collegiate Nationals on the campus of Southern Connecticut State University Thursday evening. 

Johnson, who was one of six Scarlet Knights competing in the USA Gymnastics Collegiate Nationals, placed 10th in the floor exercise with a 9.650 to earn a spot in the finals of the event held Saturday. Her final-round appearance also earned her the All-America distinction.

Freshman Nicole Schwartz (Somerset, N.J.) finished 14th overall in the all-around with a 37.350. Schwartz recorded a 9.600 to tie for 19th in the floor exercise, a 9.600 to tie for 20th in the vault, a 9.175 to tie for 39th on the bars, and an 8.975 to finish 48th  on the balance beam.

Sophomore Maddie Zwiebel (Bridgewater, N.J.) posted a 9.575 on the balance beam to finish 20th overall. Junior Alyssa Lewandowski (Linden, N.J.) competed in the vault, recording a 9.250 to place 49th, while sophomore Kiah Banfield (Newbury Park, Calif.) also participated in the vault with a 9.050 to finish 55th. Senior Kristy Behr (Northport, N.Y.) tallied an 8.175 on the uneven bars to place 55th.

Texas Women’s University finished first in the team competition with 192.850 points followed by Bridgeport in second (191.325) and Cornell and William & Mary, which tied for third with a team score of 190.800. The Scarlet Knights’ six individuals posted a team score of 83.050 in the event.
