CHAPEL HILL, NC - The Rutgers women’s gymnastics team lost to the University of North Carolina on Saturday afternoon, March 22, in Chapel Hill, NC. The Tar Heels, ranked 24th nationally, took the meet, 195.000-193.000, dropping the Scarlet Knights to 14-13 for the season with a 0-7 mark in the East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL).
Sophomore Sveta Shterenberg (Sharon, MA) posted a 37.925 in the all-around to finish behind UNC’s Anna Wilson, who registered a score of 38.675.
In the vault rotation, sophomore Jessica Orlando (Erie, PA), freshman Erin Lynch (Mullica Hill, NJ) and freshman Jamye Shelton (Griffin, GA) each scored a 9.625, finishing seventh. The Scarlet Knights posted an overall score of 47.675 to North Carolina’s 49.175.
The Tar Heels took the bars competition with a score of 48.550 to Rutgers’
Senior Kristen Marino (Hillsborough, NJ) finished second overall in the event, recording the top score for the Scarlet Knights with a 9.825 on bars.
RU topped North Carolina in the beam competition, with a team score of 48.325, beating UNC’s score of 48.250. Junior Laura Iepson (Sweetwater, NJ) was just one of four competitors for both teams to score more than a 9.800 as she posted a 9.825 to finish third overall.
Rutgers scored a 48.600 to fall to North Carolina, who posted a 49.025. Sophomore Nicole Bradder (Dover, NH) recorded a 9.825 to tie for third overall in the floor competition.
North Carolina was the final regular season meet for Rutgers. They will compete in the EAGL Championships at the University of New Hampshire, Saturday, March 29, at 6 p.m.
