CORTLAND, N.Y. – Kelly Straka (Fairless Hills, Pa.) won both vault and floor to help lead Rutgers (9-2) to a 190.20-183.525 win over Cortland in a dual-meet in Cortland, N.Y. Rutgers recorded its ninth win of the season and has now posted a team-score of 190 or above in three-straight meets. With the win, RU also improves to 5-0 all-time against the Red Dragons.
The Scarlet Knights won all four events against Cortland and had a top-three finisher in all four, as well. Straka took first on vault with her score of 9.60, while teammate Prishani Seebadri (Mt. Laurel, N.J.) captured third with her score of 9.50. Rutgers swept uneven bars, as Seebadri took first with her season-high score of 9.825. Latara Northcutt (Snellville, Ga.) took second as she also posted a season-best with a 9.80. Lorena Johnson (Lawrenceville, Ga.) rounded-out the top three for Rutgers with a score of 9.675.
Tiffany Schramm (Orange County, Calif.) was the lone Scarlet Knight to finish in the top-three on beam, as her score of 9.550 placed her in a tie for third place. Rutgers captured first and second on floor, as Straka took first with a score of 9.725. Casey Santangelo (Cherry Hill, N.J.) was not far behind with a score of 9.675, placing her second. Beth Fittery
(Denver, Pa.) took fourth with a 9.60. Fittery went on to take second in the all-around with a score of 37.750, her second-highest score of the season.
The Red Dragons were led by Brittany Wiesner, who won balance beam with a career-best score of 9.70, finished second on vault (9.550) and won the all-around with a 37.775, also a career-best.
The Scarlet Knights are back in action when they host Rhode Island, Bridgeport, and Ursinus in a quad-meet on Saturday, Feb. 24, at 7:00 p.m., at the Livingston Recreation Center.
