MORGANTOWN, WV - The Rutgers gymnastics team concluded regular-season competition against EAGL rival West Virginia, finishing in second place with 190.225 points on Saturday, March 18. The meet also featured Temple, which placed third with 186.175 points, while West Virginia won the event with 194.625.
Leading the Scarlet Knights was junior All-American Beth Fittery (Denver, PA), who tied for first with West Virginia’s Janae Cox in the all-around competition. Fittery secured a combined score of 38.000 points to share the title and also posted RU’s top score in the floor exercise with a 9.675 (sixth place).
Junior Jacki Campbell (Wheatley Heights, NY) finished sixth in the vault with a 9.625, while Fittery took eighth, scoring a 9.575. Freshman Latara Northcutt (Snellville, GA) was the high scorer on the uneven bars, as she placed fifth with a 9.650. Freshman Jessica Haddaway (Baltimore, MD) and junior Casey Santangelo (Cherry Hill, NJ) each tied for sixth place on the bars with scores of 9.600.
On the balance beam, Santangelo and Fittery led the Scarlet Knights with fourth and fifth-place finishes, respectively. Santangelo posted a 9.725, while Fittery recorded a 9.550.
Rutgers will next be in action on Saturday, March 25, when it hosts the 11th annual East Atlantic Gymnastics League Championship. The meet, which is scheduled to begin at 6:00 pm, will be held at the Louis Brown Athletic Center.
