ITHACA, NY - The Rutgers gymnastics team (11-7, 1-4 EAGL) competed against Cornell and Eastern Michigan on Saturday, March 4, at Teagle Gymnasium in Ithaca, NY. The Scarlet Knights scored 191.900 points to place second just behind Eastern Michigan with 193.550, and ahead of Cornell, which scored 189.175 points.
Freshman Latara Northcutt (Snellville, GA) put together another stellar performance, as she took first place in the vault and uneven bar competitions for the second consecutive week. Northcutt won the vault title with a season-high 9.825.
Northcutt also tied with freshman Jessica Haddaway (Baltimore, MD) for first on the uneven bars. They each posted season highs of 9.825 to claim top honors.
Junior Beth Fittery (Denver, PA) was Rutgers’ high performer on the balance beam with a score of 9.650 to finish in fifth place, while junior Casey Santangelo (Cherry Hill, NJ) won the floor exercise with a season-high 9.800.
Northcutt placed third in the all-around competition with a combined score of 38.575, followed by Fittery in fourth with 38.525 points.
The Scarlet Knights will return to action on Saturday, March 11, when they travel to Towson, MD, to take on Towson University at 7:00 p.m. Rutgers previously topped the Tigers in its final home meet of the season on Saturday, Feb. 25, at the Livingston Recreation Center.
