  • PITTSBURGH, PA - The Rutgers University gymnastics team (5-2, 1-2 EAGL) fell to the University of Pittsburgh by a score of 191.950-190.625 on Saturday, Feb. 4, at Fitzgerald Field House.

Rutgers put together several strong performances, but unfortunately the Scarlet Knights were unable to secure a victory against the Panthers. Junior Beth Fittery (Denver, PA) led Rutgers, finishing second in the all-around competition with a combined score of 38.150 points.

In the vault, junior Lorena Johnson (Lilburn, GA) and freshman Latara Northcutt (Snellville, GA) tied for fourth place with a 9.600. Fittery was RU’s top competitor on the uneven bars, as she scored a 9.600 to finish in fifth place.

Junior Casey Santangelo (Cherry Hill, NJ) followed up last weekend’s stellar performance on the balance beam, as she finished in second with a team-high 9.625, while Northcutt tied for third place with a 9.600.

Fittery and senior Lauren Sisler (Newport, VA) posted the team’s highest marks in the floor exercise competition. Fittery and Sisler tied for third, scoring a 9.675 apiece.

The Scarlet Knights will return to action on Friday, Feb. 10, when they travel to State College, PA to take on the Penn State Nittany Lions at 7:00 p.m.
