PISCATAWAY, NJ – The Rutgers University gymnastics team (16-9, 2-6 EAGL) qualified to compete at the 2005 NCAA Northeast regionals on Saturday, April 9, on the campus of the University of New Hampshire in Durham, NH. The meet is scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m.
The Scarlet Knights are one of six teams to qualify in the Northeast Region, which includes LSU, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Pittsburgh and host New Hampshire. Rutgers will open the meet competing on vault, followed by the uneven bars and balance beam, before concluding on the floor exercise.
Leading the team in the floor exercise is senior Stephanie Zick (Pittsburgh, PA), averaging a 9.613 and heading the bars rotation is senior Nicci Bradder (Dover, NH) with a 9.571 average. The Scarlet Knights’ top performer on the balance beam is junior Gina Roselle (Tinton Falls, NJ) with an average score of 9.588 and freshman Stephanie Pannick (Archbald, PA) leads the team in the vault, averaging a 9.535.
Sophomore Beth Fittery (Denver, PA) is Rutgers’ top all-around competitor with a combined average score of 38.004 points.
RU is coming off a seventh place showing at last weekend’s 10th annual East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) Championships in Raleigh, NC. In addition, the Scarlet Knights received two All-EAGL honors, as Zick and sophomore Jacki Campbell (Wheatley Heights, NY) were named second team all-floor exercise and second team all-balance beam, respectively.
