PISCATAWAY, NJ – The Rutgers University gymnastics team (13-6, 1-5 EAGL) scored 191.200 points to take second place, missing the top spot by just one-tenth of a point in its regular-season home finale at the Livingston Recreation Center. Eastern Michigan finished in first place with 191.300 points, followed by the Scarlet Knights, Cornell (187.775) and Ursinus (184.650).
Prior to the meet, Rutgers honored its nine seniors – Marinelle Antonio (Mt. Laurel, NJ), Janice Blackistone (Kensington, MD), Nicole Bradder (Dover, NH), Tracey Heckler (Laurel Springs, NJ), Caitlin McKeever (Annandale, NJ), Jennifer Miksan (Carol Stream, IL), Jessica Orlando (Erie, PA), Sveta Shterenberg (Sharon, MA) and Stephanie Zick (Pittsburgh, PA).
Sophomore Beth Fittery (Denver PA) put together a sterling performance, winning the all-around title with a combined score of 38.425 points. Fittery also took first place on the balance beam, scoring a season-high 9.725.
Zick won the uneven bars title with a season-high score of 9.800, followed by Fittery in second with a 9.675. On the floor exercise, freshman Stephanie Pannick (Archbald, PA) was the Scarlet Knights’ top performer with a 9.800, finishing in fourth place and on the vault, Bradder also took fourth place, scoring a 9.475 to lead RU.
The Scarlet Knights return to action on Saturday, March 12, when they travel to Towson, MD, to face host Towson as well as EAGL foes Maryland and Pittsburgh. The start time of the quad meet is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
