PISCATAWAY, NJ – The Rutgers gymnastics team (2-2, 0-2 EAGL) won its home opener in commanding fashion, taking first place in each of the four events on Saturday, Jan. 22 at the Livingston Recreation Center.
The Scarlet Knights scored 188.950 points, finishing ahead of James Madison (179.450) and SUNY-Cortland (177.425).
Leading the way for RU was senior Nicci Bradder (Dover, NH), who took first place in three of the four events, including winning the all-around title with 37.750 points.
Bradder placed first in the floor exercise, scoring a 9.625, followed by senior Stephanie Zick (Pittsburgh, PA) and sophomore Beth Fittery (Denver, PA) in a tie for third with a score of 9.500. Fittery also took second in the all-around.
The Scarlet Knights dominated on the on the bars, claiming the top five spots behind Bradder, who scored a 9.550 to take first place. Freshman Stephanie Pannick (Archbald, PA) finished in second with a score of 9.475 and senior Tracy Heckler (Laurel Springs, NJ) took third (9.450). Sophomore Lorena Johnson (Lilburn, GA) and Fittery rounded out the top five spots, finishing fourth (9.425) and fifth (9.225), respectively.
On the vault, Bradder scored a 9.625 to finish first, while freshman Amanda Apadula (Sewell, NJ) took second, scoring a 9.550.
Sophomores Jacki Campbell (Wheatley Heights, NY) and Casey Santangelo (Cherry Hill, NJ) combined with Fittery to finish first, second and third, respectively. Campbell scored a 9.700, followed by Santangelo with a 9.625 and Fittery (9.425).
The Scarlet Knights return to action on Wednesday, Jan 26, for a dual-meet against the Temple Owls.
