  • BALTIMORE (March 5, 2014) – Both sophomore Jenna Williams (Bordentown, N.J.) and freshman Claire Jones (Gaffney, S.C.) earned weekly recognition from the East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) for their performance last week at Cornell. Williams picked up Specialist of the Week, while Jones secured Rookie of the Week.

Both gymnasts scored a career-high 9.875 on balance beam to help the Scarlet Knights record a season-best 49.100 in the event. The mark was part of a total team score of 195.825, the best road number in program history.

“They rocked their beam routines,” head coach Louis Levine said. “Between the two of them and Alexis [Gunzelman], they all went 9.875 to finish first in the meet. It is great to see two earn weekly recognition, which is well-deserved.”

This is the third career EAGL weekly honor for Williams, who earned Rookie of the Week twice last season. Jones picks up her first award, joining classmate April Baker (Andover, Mass.) as Scarlet Knights who received Rookie of the Week honors this year. In all, Rutgers has totaled six honors from the conference this season through eight weeks.

Rutgers is back in action for its Senior Meet Saturday at 1 p.m. Tickets are sold out for the event.
