Beallsville, Md. ─ The Rutgers golf team shot a three-round 1054 (354-340-360) to finish in 12th place at the Georgetown Hoya Women's Invitational, played March 31 - April 1 at the Members Club at Four Streams. Freshman Jeanne Waters (West Sayville, N.Y.) carded a 248 (83-79-86) to finish tied for 35th place, while pacing the Scarlet Knights for the second time in as many events this spring season.
After 36 holes in cold and rainy weather on Monday, the teams enjoyed warmer temperatures on Tuesday. Strong winds through much of the morning, however, still made play difficult during the third and final round.
Junior Lauren Huhnerkoch (Burnsville, Minn.) performed well, shooting a 252 (81-84-87) to finish 41st on the par 72, 6,127-yard course. Senior Jen Rudy (Berlin, Conn.), junior Stephanie Yastrub (Lake Grove, N.Y.) and freshman Daley Owens (Taylorsville, Utah) comprised the rest of the RU scorecard. Rudy concluded the event in 60th place with a 267 (92-87-88) total, while Yastrub and Owens placed tied for 70th (103-90-100=293) and 72nd (98-98-99=295), respectively.
Fourteen teams and 73 student-athletes competed in the tournament. Princeton shot a 13-over par 301 on Wednesday to come back from a three-shot deficit to finish at 54-over par 918 and win the Invitational.
Princeton's Susannah Aboff took medalist honors, posting an even-par 72 in the final round to finish at five-over par 221. The Tigers put four individuals among the top 20 overall to place three strokes ahead of Rollins College, which finished second at 57-over par 921. Yale placed in the show position with a 63-over par 927.
The Scarlet Knights, under the leadership of head coach Maura Ballard, return to the links for a quad match this Friday, April 4, at the Rutgers Golf Course. RESULTS
