DADE CITY, FL - The Rutgers University women’s golf team opened its postseason spring play on Monday and Tuesday with a seventh place finish at the BIG EAST Championships at Lake Jovita Golf and Country Club. Louisville’s Adrienne White earned first-place honors after shooting a 216 over the three-round event.

After a spring season in which she participated in just one event, freshman Ashley Kozlowski (Windsor, CT) was RU’s top finisher, carding a combined 231 (75, 76, 80) over two days. Kozlowski began the event on a tear and was in contention for the All-BIG EAST team after firing six birdies through the first 36 holes. However, a slow round three saw her fall out of the top-8 and finish in a tie for 13th-place overall.

Junior Lauren Braswell (Basking Ridge, NJ) fired a combined 242 (78, 79, 85) over the three-round event, and like Kozlowski, she started strong and tailed off in the third round. Despite finishing in 28th-place overall, Braswell shaved nearly 11 strokes off of her strokes-per-round average from her spring events and made vast improvements from her first event of the spring when she shot a 300 (96, 95, 109) at the Waterlefe/USF Invitational.

Freshman Lauren Huhnerkoch (Burnsville, MN) fired consecutive rounds of 82 to start her Championships, but rebounded impressively to cup a 79 during round three to finish with a combined score of 243. The freshman ended in a tie for 29th-place overall and cut nearly five strokes off of her shots-per-round average from the spring season.

Junior Ashley Fowler (Scottsdale, AZ) and freshman Kristin Hrycko (Toronto, Ontario) closed out Rutgers’ participation in the event with 31st and 33rd place finishes, respectively. Fowler finished with a combined score of 244 (81, 81, 82), while Hrycko finished with a 251 (82, 85, 84).

Like Braswell, Huhnerkoch and Kozlowski, Hrycko cut strokes off of her spring season strokes-per-round average at the BIG EAST Championships. She came into the event with a 96.5 average and finished the event with just under 84 strokes per round.

Next up for RU, the NCAA East Regionals, which are set to take place in Browns Summit, NC from May 11-13.
