JAMES CITY, VA – The Rutgers University women’s golf team opened its 2005 spring season with a 15th-place finish at the William & Mary Invitational on Sunday. The Scarlet Knights carded a 693 (341-352) at the two-round event, held at the par-72, 6001-yard Ford’s Colony Country Club in James City, VA.
Rollins College won the 16-school championship with a 603 (299-304), while Longwood University’s Stephanie Hicks took home the individual title with a one-under-par 143 (73-70).
Senior Mary Stewart (Scottsdale, AZ) led the Scarlet Knights, carding a 158 (82-76) to tie for 16th place overall. Sophomore Ashley Fowler (Scottsdale, AZ) fired a 170 (86-84) to tie for 53rd. Freshman Jen Rudy (Berlin, CT) shot a 184 (92-92) to place 75th, while sophomore Monica Coe (Mays Landing, NJ) carded a 191 (91-100) to finish 77th. Sophomore Lauren Braswell (Basking Ridge, NJ) was forced to withdraw from the event following her opening-round score of 82.
The Scarlet Knights are back in action Saturday and Sunday, April 2-3, returning to the state of Virginia to compete in the third annual Georgetown Invitational in Leesburg, VA.
