PISCATAWAY, NJ – The Rutgers University women’s golf team is in eighth place after Friday’s opening round of the 26th annual Rutgers Invitational. RU shot 328 as a team at the 5,847-yard, par-72 Rutgers University Golf Course.
St. Francis (PA) leads the 16-school tournament following a 306 on Friday, followed closely by second-place St. John’s with a 307. Brittany Lambertson of St. John’s shot an even-par 72 to lead the 84-member field.
Sophomore Lauren Braswell (Basking Ridge, NJ) led the Scarlet Knights with an opening-round 81. She is currently tied for 27th overall heading into the tournament’s final day.
Seniors Mary Stewart (Scottsdale, AZ) and Katie Kennedy (Annandale, NJ) ended Friday one stroke behind Braswell with an 82 to tie for 29th place after the first round.
Sophomore Ashley Fowler (Scottsdale, AZ) ended the first day with an 83. She enters Saturday’ final round tied for 32nd place. Senior Noel Picca (Irving, TX) fired an opening-round 86 and is currently tied for 46th overall.
Sophomore Monica Coe (Mays Landing, NJ) and freshman Jen Rudy (Berlin, CT) of the Scarlet Knights competed individually. Both shot a 95 to finish tied for 73rd after round one.
The final round of the Rutgers Invitational will begin at 7:30 a.m. Saturday.
