MONTEREY, Calif. – Rutgers women’s golf placed third with a 970 (329-320-321) team total at the six-team Monterey Bay Invitational, played Sunday through Tuesday at Del Monte Golf Club. Freshman Taylor Clark (Sterling Heights, Mich.) paced the Scarlet Knights, carding a 238 (78-82-78) to finish tied for fifth in the 34-player field.
Sophomores Gabrielle Sacheli (Pittsford, N.Y.) and Samantha Moyal (Alameda, Calif.) also performed well and finished among the top 15 competitors. Sacheli posted a 242 (79-81-82) to place 12th, while Moyal shot a 244 (87-78-79) to finish tied for 13th.
Sophomore Christina Paulsen (Ridgewood, N.J.) and freshman Maddy Gedeon (Roseville, Calif.) comprised the rest of the competing five. Paulsen was 21st with a 248 (87-79-82) and Gedeon tied for 23rd with a 250 (85-82-83).
The 54-hole event, hosted by Drake, also featured Central Oklahoma, Columbia, CSU Bakersfield and Northern Colorado. The Scarlet Knights defeated Drake, Northern Colorado and CSU Bakersfield.
Columbia captured the team title with a 924 (303-310-311), 43 strokes better than second place Central Oklahoma (967). Individually, Columbia’s Monique Ishikawa earned individual medalist honors with a 226 (76-74-76). The Lions had three competitors place among the top four.
Sophomores Racquel Zurick (West Trenton, N.J.) and Jackie Mullens (Brookside, N.J.) both competed as individuals. Zurick tied for 16th with a 246 (77-83-86) and Mullens was 31st with a 266 (83-91-92).
Rutgers, under the leadership of 22nd-year head coach Maura Ballard, returns to the links at the Seton Hall Pirate Invitational, April 5-6, in Bedminster, N.J.
