GREENWOOD, Ind. – Rutgers women’s golf placed 16th with a 947 (311-316-320) team score at the 16-team Hoosier Invitational, played Saturday and Sunday at the par 71 Hickory Stick Golf Club. Sophomore Samantha Moyal (Alameda, Calif.) paced the Scarlet Knights in their final tournament of the fall season, carding a 231 (79-75-77) to place tied for 49th in the 96-player field.
Freshman Taylor Clark (Sterling Heights, Mich.) also performed well in the highly-competitive field. She shot a 237 (76-82-79) to tie for 76th.
Sophomore Jackie Mullens (Brookside, N.J.), freshman Maddy Gedeon (Roseville, Calif.) and sophomore Gabrielle Sacheli (Pittsford, N.Y.) comprised the rest of the Scarlet scorecard. Mullens tied for 80th with a 239 (76-83-80), Gedeon was 84th with a 241 (80-77-84) and Sacheli was 94th with a 251 (84-82-85).
UC-Davis won the Invitational with an 868 (296-288-284), 16 strokes better than second place Illinois (884). UC-Davis’s Betty Chen captured individual medalist honors with a three-under 210 (72-69-69).
The tournament was hosted by Big Ten Conference member Indiana. Six current Big Ten teams participated in the event. The Scarlet Knights join the league beginning with the 2014-15 athletic season.
