Women’s Golf Finishes Rutgers Invitational in a Tie for Eighth

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (Oct. 15, 2013) – The Rutgers women’s golf finished tied for eighth at the Rutgers Invitational with a team score 635 (326-309) on Tuesday. Sophomore Jackie Mullens (Brookside, N.J.) led the squad with an even-par 72 in the second round to finish tied for eighth overall with an 8-over-par 152 (80-72).

Mullens carded a 1-under 36 on the front nine and posted four birdies in the second round.

Freshman Maddy Gedeon (Roseville, Calif.) and classmate Taylor Clark (Sterling Heights, Mich.) each notched a 16-over 160. Gedeon was 4-over with a 76 in the second round, shaving eight strokes off of her opening-round 84. Clark recorded an 81 and a 79.

Sophomore Gabrielle Sacheli (Pittsford, N.Y.) ended the tournament tied 57th with a 163 (81-82). Classmate Samantha Moyal (Alameda, Calif.) rounded out the starters with a 169 (85-84) to tie for 79th.

Competing as an individual, sophomore Melanie Chambers (Henderson, Nev.) finished with the second-best overall score on the team, carding a 158 (75-83) to tie for 28th. Classmate Racquel Zurick (West Trenton, N.J.) matched Gedeon and Clark, posting match scores of 80 for a 160 as an individual.

Delaware took the team title with a 27-over-par 603 (302-301). Seton Hall finished second, five strokes behind the Blue Hens. The Pirates’ Erin McClure took the individual title with identical rounds of 73 for a 2-over-par 146.

The Scarlet Knights wrap up their fall campaign at the Hoosier Invitational, hosted by Indiana, in Greenwood, Ind., from Oct. 19-20.
