NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Rutgers women’s golf is in seventh place with a 308 score after the opening round of the 17-team Yale Intercollegiate, played Friday at The Course at Yale. Sophomore Gabrielle Sacheli (Pittsford, N.Y.) paced the Scarlet Knights on day one, carding a five over 76 to enter Saturday tied for 14th in the 91-player field.
Sophomore Jackie Mullens (Brookside, N.J.) and freshman Taylor Clark (Sterling Heights, Mich.), competing in her second collegiate event, joined Sacheli among the top 25. Both are tied for 23rd with 77’s.
Sophomore Samantha Moyal (Alameda, Calif.) and freshman Maddy Gedeon (Roseville, Calif.), playing in her initial collegiate event, comprised the rest of the Rutgers scorecard. Moyal tied for 33rd with a 78 and Gedeon is tied for 61st with an 82.
Tournament host Yale leads the with a 292, five strokes ahead of second place Boston University. Individually, Yale’s Elisabeth Bernabe and BU’s Adela Cejnarova are tied atop the leaderboard with two-under 69 efforts.
The second round tees-off at 8 a.m. Saturday morning.
