BARRINGTON, RI – The Rutgers Women’s Golf Team placed sixth with a 640 (320-320) score at the 14-team Brown BEAR Invitational, played Sunday and Monday at the Rhode Island Country Club. Senior Brittany Weddell (Buzzards Bay, Mass.) finished fifth in the 84-competitor field with a 150 (76-74), just three shots off the pace.
Weddell was the lone upperclassman in RU’s competing five, which included four true freshmen. Gabrielle Sacheli (Pittsford, N.Y.) made her mark among the top 25, finishing tied for 23rd with a 160 (81-79).
Samantha Moyal (Alameda, Calif.), Melanie Chambers (Henderson, Nev.) and Racquel Zurick (West Trenton, N.J.) comprised the remainder of the team scorecard. Moyal was 38th with a 164 (77-87), Chambers tied for 44th with a 167 (86-81) and Zurick tied for 63rd with a 172 (86-86).
Yale captured the team title with a 604 (309-295), 17 strokes better than Seton Hall (621). Harvard placed third with a 623.
St. John’s Jennifer Neville captured individual medalist honors with a 147 (75-72).
Rutgers, under the leadership of head coach Maura Ballard, returns to the links April 21-23 at the BIG EAST Championship in Orlando, Fla.
