CRYSTAL RIVER, FL – The Rutgers Women’s Golf Team placed 11th with a 630 (316-314) team score at the Cincinnati Spring Invitational, played Friday and Saturday at the Plantation Inn Golf Resort and Spa. Senior Brittany Weddell (Buzzards Bay, Mass.) carded a 75 on Saturday and tied for 13th in the 102-player field with a 152 total.
Sunday’s third and final round was cancelled due to lightning and inclement weather.
Weddell, who had 26 pars in the tournament, was joined near the top of the leaderboard by fellow senior Karen Cash (Allendale, N.J.). Cash tied for 36th with a 157 (74-83).
Freshmen Samantha Moyal (Alameda, Calif.) and Melanie Chambers (Henderson, Nev.) were also among the top 50 competitors after showing marked improvement in round two. Moyal (84-77) and Chambers (82-79) both tied for 49th with 161 totals.
Fellow rookie Gabrielle Sacheli (Pittsford, N.Y.) rounded out the team scorecard tied for 88th with a 169 (83-86).
Host Cincinnati took first place after shooting a 300 in round two. The Bearcats improved four strokes from round one to move from third to first place in the 17-team field with a total score of 604. Bradley (302-303=605), Florida Southern (303-310), Xavier (306-309) and Seton Hall (314-302) rounded out the top-five teams.
Rutgers, under the leadership of Maura Ballard, returns to the links at the Georgetown Invitational, April 8-9 in Washington, D.C.
