OCALA, FL – The Rutgers Women’s Golf Team is tied for 12th with a 628 (314-314) team score after two rounds at the Ocala Spring Invitational, played Sunday and Monday at the Juliette Falls Golf Resort. Freshman Samantha Moyal (Alameda, Calif.) continued her strong play on Monday and enters Tuesday’s final round 12th in the 82-player field with a 148 (70-78) on the 6,113-yard course.
Moyal, who has six birdies in the tournament, is seven strokes behind Mercer’s Lacey Fears, who sits atop the leaderboard with a three-under par 141.
Senior Brittany Weddell (Buzzards Bay, Mass.) was the Scarlet Knights’ top performer on Monday, carding a 77 to move into a tie for 46th place with a 157. She has 25 pars through 36 holes.
Freshman Gabrielle Sacheli (Pittsford, N.Y.) also performed well on day two, shooting a 79 to enter Wednesday tied for 58th. She is minus two in par five scoring for the event.
Freshman Melanie Chambers (Henderson, Nev.) and senior Karen Cash (Allendale, N.J.) round out the team scorecard. Chambers is tied for 63rd with a 162 (82-80) and Cash is 80th with a 171 (90-81).
Mercer is in first place, 12 strokes ahead of the rest of the field, with a 584 (293-291). Stetson and Toledo are tied for second at 596.
The third and final round of the 54-hole Invitational will be contested on Tuesday.
