OCALA, FL – The Rutgers Women’s Golf Team is in 10th place with a 314 team score after the first round of the Ocala Spring Invitational, played Sunday at the Juliette Falls Golf Resort. Freshman Samantha Moyal (Alameda, Calif.) was exceptional on day one, carding a two-under par 70 on the 6,113-yard course to enter Monday’s second round in second place in the 82-player field.
Moyal is one stroke off the pace, trailing Ohio’s Kara Brinkmann (69). Just five players were under par on Sunday.
Senior Brittany Weddell (Buzzards Bay, Mass.) and freshmen Melanie Chambers (Henderson, Nev.) and Gabrielle Sacheli (Pittsford, N.Y.) also performed well. Weddell is tied for 51st with an 80, while both Chambers and Sacheli are tied for 59th at 82.
Senior Karen Cash (Allendale, N.J.) rounded out the team scorecard with a 90.
Mercer is in first place with a 293, four strokes ahead of second place Stetson.
The second round of the event, which is being hosted by Morehead State, tees-off tomorrow morning. The third and final round of the 54-hole Invitational will be contested on Tuesday.
