PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers University rising senior golfers Brittany Weddell (Buzzards Bay, Mass.) and Karen Cash (Allendale, N.J.) have qualified to compete in the 2012 U.S. Women’s Amateur Public Links Championship to be held June 18-23 at Neshanic Valley Golf Course in Neshanic Station, N.J. Weddell carded 72 to qualify at the Cyprian Keyes Golf Club in Boylston, Mass., while Cash shot 75 to qualify at Sunset Valley Golf Club in Pompton Plains, N.J.
Weddell competed in all nine tournaments for the Scarlet Knights in 2011-12 and had a 77.1 stroke average. She had six top 12 finishes, including second at the 97-player Rutgers Invitational with a 152 (75-77) in October and fifth at the 102-competitor Cincinnati Spring Invitational with a 221 (75-74-72) in March.
Cash also played in all nine events and had an 81.5 stroke average. She boasted three top 20 performances, including 10th with a 156 (81-75) at the Lehigh Invitational in October.
The Championship will provide a stern test for 156 of the best female public-course golfers. It will be played over a course measuring 6,195 yards to a par of 72. USA Curtis Cup Team members Tiffany Lua, Lisa McCloskey and Emily Tubert have entered and will look to add their names to the illustrious list of champions that includes Yani Tseng (currently No. 1 player in the world), Michelle Wie, Pearl Sinn and Tiffany Joh.
