REUNION, Fla. – The Rutgers women’s golf team is in fifth place with a 635 (311-324) total after the initial two rounds of the 2012 BIG EAST Championship, played Sunday and Monday at The Watson Course at Reunion Resort & Club. Freshman Kortnie Maxoutopoulis (Pleasanton, Calif.) is pacing the Scarlet Knights through 36 holes with a 153 (75-78) to enter Tuesday’s final round tied for ninth in the 40-player field.
Maxoutopoulis is even in par three scoring and has four birdies to go along with 19 pars.
Junior Brittany Weddell (Buzzards Bay, Mass.) continues to play well on the challenging course, carding a 158 (77-81) to sit in 18th place. Also even in par three scoring, she has a team-best 21 pars.
Seniors Lizzy Carl (Mendota Heights, Minn.) and Elisa Mateer (Marmora, N.J.) and junior Karen Cash (Allendale, N.J.) round out the team scorecard. Carl, who is even in par five scoring, is tied for 29th with a 163 (75-88). Cash is 33rd at 165 (84-81) and Mateer is 40th at 170 (86-84).
USF is in first place with a 604 (298-306), five strokes ahead of Notre Dame (296-313=609) with Louisville in third position (312-311=623). The Scarlet Knights are ahead of sixth place Cincinnati, seventh place Georgetown and eighth place St. John’s.
Individually, USF’s Amy West (74-76) and Notre Dame’s Ashley Armstrong (73-77) are tied atop the leaderboard with 150 efforts. Two competitors are tied for third one stroke behind.
High winds hampered play on Monday. The final round of the 54-hole Championship begins Tuesday at 8 a.m. Eastern.
