SUFFERN, N.Y. (April 14, 2012) – The Rutgers women’s golf team placed fifth with a 636 (324-312) total at the sixth annual Roar-EE Invitational, played Friday and Saturday at Spook Rock Golf Course. Freshman Kortnie Maxoutopoulis (Pleasanton, Calif.) paced the Scarlet Knights at the 14-team event, carding a 153 (77-76) to finish tied for 9th in the 75-player field.
Maxoutopoulis had 23 pars during the 36-hole event and was plus one in par five scoring.
Juniors Brittany Weddell (Buzzards Bay, Mass.) and Karen Cash (Allendale, N.J.) complemented Maxoutopoulis well, also placing among the top 15 competitors. After opening with an 82, Weddell shined on Saturday, shooting a 72 to finish tied for 12th with a 154. Cash was steady throughout, posting a 156 (77-79) to finish tied for 15th. Weddell had 24 pars, while Cash was even in par five scoring.
Seniors Elisa Mateer (Marmora, N.J.) and Lizzy Carl (Mendota Heights, Minn.) comprised the rest of the team scorecard on the par 72, 6,008-yard course. Mateer tied for 51st with a 173 (88-85) and Carl tied for 59th with a 178 (90-88).
Harvard won its second consecutive Invitational title, posting a 600 (306-294) to defeat host team Columbia by six strokes. Columbia’s Michelle Piyapattra captured individual medalist honors with an even par 144 (75-69).
Rutgers, under the leadership of 20th-year head coach Maura Waters-Ballard, returns to the links for the BIG EAST Championships, April 22-24 at the Reunion Resort & Club in Orlando, Fla.
