Crystal River, FL - The Rutgers women’s golf team is in seventh place with a 623 (316-307) team score after the initial two rounds of the 19-team UC Spring Invitational, played Friday and Saturday at the Plantation Inn Golf Resort and Spa. Junior Brittany Weddell (Buzzard’s Bay, Mass.)paced the Scarlet Knights once again on Saturday, carding a 74 and enters Sunday’s final round tied for 6th in the 104-player field with a 149 (75-74) total.
RU jumped seven positions on day two after ending the initial round in 14th place. Four of five competitors improved their score on Saturday.
Freshman Kortnie Maxoutopoulis (Pleasanton, Calif.) joins Weddell among the top 20 competitors. The rookie is tied for 18th with a 152 (77-75).
Seniors Lizzy Carl (Mendota Heights, Minn.) and Elisa Mateer (Marmora, N.J.) and juniorKaren Cash (Allendale, N.J.) rounded out the team scorecard. Carl is tied for 51st with a 160 (81-79), Cash tied for 62nd with a 163 (84-79) and Mateer is 94th with a 179 (83-96).
Florida International continues to pace the field, posting rounds of 290-294=584. The Panthers lead is 21 strokes better than second-place Stetson (299-306=605).
Shelby Coyle of FIU leads the individual competition with rounds of 69-72=141. North Dakota State's Amy Anderson (70-74=144) is three shots back in second place.
The third and final round will get underway on Sunday with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.
