Port St. Lucie, FL - The Rutgers women’s golf team is in second place with a 323 team score after the opening round of the Homewood Suites Invitational, played Friday on the Wanamaker Course at PGA Village. Hosted by Siena, the eight-team event concludes Saturday with an additional 18 holes.
Junior Brittany Weddell (Buzzard’s Bay, Mass.) paced the Scarlet Knight on day one, carding a 76 enter the final round fourth in the 49-player field. She was joined in the top 10 by freshman Kortnie Maxoutopoulis (Pleasanton, Calif.), who posted a 79 to sit eighth.
Junior Karen Cash (Allendale, N.J.) and seniors Lizzy Carl (Mendota Heights, Minn.), and Elisa Mateer (Marmora, N.J.) rounded out the team scorecard. Cash is tied for 19th with an 83, Carl is tied for 25th with an 85 and Mateer is tied for 29th with an 87. Playing as an individual, senior Lauren Heiba (Bridgewater, N.J.) is tied for 40th with a 95.
Seton Hall leads the event with a 305 team total.
The Homewood Suites Invitational is the first of four tournaments the Scarlet Knights are slated to compete in this spring.
