PISCATAWAY, N.J. (November 18, 2011) - Rutgers Director of Golf Maura Ballard announced today that Samantha Moyal (Alameda, Calif.), the 2010 Northern California Girls Junior Amateur Champion, has signed a National Letter of Intent to compete for the Scarlet Knights. Moyal, who won the NCGA Championship at Spyglass Hill over current RU freshman standout Kortnie Maxoutopoulis with rounds of 75-74, boasts a USGA handicap index of +1.1.

“Samantha has competed at a very high level in Northern California,” said Ballard. “We are thrilled she has chosen to join her good friend Kortnie in representing the Rutgers Scarlet Knights.”

Moyal serves as captain of her undefeated varsity golf team at Alameda high school, where she led the squad to the league championship.  She was named ACCAL Player of the Year for her efforts.  Moyal shot 72 at the sectional championship, helping Alameda to the Northern California championship.  She has placed in the top 10 in several Northern California Junior Tour events.  She placed fourth at Castlewood, where she shot 73-78, and seventh at the Nor-Cal Junior Championship, where she carded 78-73.

Moyal has a scoring differential on junior golf scoreboard of 2.94.
