Chambers Signs National Letter of intent to Attend Rutgers

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (November 11, 2011) - Rutgers Director of Golf Maura Waters-Ballard announced today that Melanie Chambers (Henderson, Nev.), the 2011 Nevada State Junior Champion, has signed a National Letter of Intent to compete for the Scarlet Knights. An honors student, Chambers placed 13th in the Trusted Choice Big I National Championships and finished fourth in the 2011 Nevada State High School Championship.

Chambers shot rounds of 72 and 75 to capture victory at the 2011 State Junior, her second title (2008) in the event. Her scoring differential on juniorgolfscoreboard.com is 3.35. 

Presently a senior at Coronado High School, where she maintains a 3.78 grade point average, Chambers’ prep scoring average is 74.4. She is a four-time team M.V.P. and three-time team captain under head coach Joe Sawaia.

"Melanie has succeeded on the golf course and in the classroom at a very high level,” said Waters-Ballard. “We are very excited about the positive impact she will make on our team."

Chambers’ USGA handicap index is .8. She competed in the Callaway Junior World Championship seven straight years (2005-11). She has three AJGA top 10 finishes and competed in the 2010 First Tee Open at Pebble Beach.
