ANNAPOLIS, MD - The Rutgers men’s golf team opened its 2003 fall season this weekend, recording a sixth place finish at the Navy Fall Invitational, held at the par-71 United States Naval Academy Golf Course.
Georgetown won the team competition, tallying 565 (280-285) strokes for the two-round tournament. Navy’s Billy Hurley took individual honors, carding a 12-under-par 130 (69-61) for the event.
RU was led by sophomore Mike Kosup (Flemington, NJ), who registered a three-over-par 145 (75-70) to tie for 14th overall in individual competition. Senior Brent Pittman (Montvale, NJ) and junior Erick Morales (Bayamon, Puerto Rico) were four strokes back, firing a 149 for the tournament to tie for 30th place. Pittman shot a 71 and 78 for his two rounds, while Morales registered rounds of 77 and 72. Junior Jason Bataille (South Plainfield, NJ) shot a 150 (78-72) to tie for 35th, while senior Brian Whitman (Blairstown, NJ) was one stroke behind with a two-round score of 151 (73-78).
The Scarlet Knights return to action next Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 20-21, competing at the James Madison Invitational in Harrisonburg, VA.
