Rutgers Earns Sixth Place at The McLaughlin

FARMINGDALE, NY – The Rutgers men’s golf team finished play at The McLaughlin on Saturday, placing sixth out of 18 schools. The men shot a two-round score of 583 (288-295) for the tournament. The tournament was scheduled for 54 holes, but tropical storm Isadore forced the event to be reduced to 36 holes.

Junior Brent Pittman (Montvale, NJ) paced the Scarlet Knights, finishing in a tie for 20th place in individual competition, carding a 36-hole score of 145 (72-73) for five over par for the tournament. Finishing in a tie for 22nd, just one stroke behind, sophomore Brian Whitman (Blairstown, NJ) shot a six over par, 146 (71-75) for the tournament.

Freshman Michael Kosup (Flemington, NJ) placed 30th, with a 36-hole score of 148 (74-74). Sophomore Erick Morales (Bayamon Puerto Rico) registered a two-round score of 149 (71-78) to finish 37th. Senior Michael Michel (Attleboro, MA) shot 151 (78-73) for the tournament, placing 49th overall.

St. John’s won the event, shooting a team score of 566 (272-294) in the two-round tournament. The individual winner was Andrew Svoboda of the Red Storm carding a 134 (64-70) for 36 holes.

The men will be back in action as they travel to Scranton, PA to compete in the Temple Invitational next Sat.-Sun. Oct. 5-6
