KINGSTON, RI - The Rutgers men’s golf team tied for third place overall with George Washington at the rain-shortened University of Rhode Island Spring Invitational on Saturday, April 26, carding a 312 team score. The event, scheduled for Friday and Saturday, was shortened to one round as rain moved through the par-72 Newport Golf Club on Saturday morning, canceling the final round of competition.
Binghamton won the team event with an 11-over-par 299, while Rhode Island’s Kenneth Fahey and Binghamton’s Brad Moulton were the co-medalists after shooting a one-under-par 71.
Rutgers was led by sophomore Jason Bataille (South Plainfield, NJ), who shot a four-over-par 76, to tie for 10th place. Freshman Mike Kosup (Flemington, NJ) and sophomore Erick Morales (Bayamon, Puerto Rico) tied for 18th overall, firing a 78 for the tournament. Two strokes back, junior Brent Pittman (Montvale, NJ) carded an 80, to tie for 28th. Senior Michael Michel (Attleboro, MA) shot an 83 on Friday to tie for 53rd overall.
The Rhode Island Invitational was the final of four tournaments the Scarlet Knights competed in during the spring season.
