RU Men’s Golf Opens Spring Season With 10th Place Showing at William and Mary Invitational

WILLAMSBURG, VA - After a week of spring training in Port St. Lucie, FL, the Rutgers men’s golf team opened its spring season on Monday and Tuesday, competing in the William and Mary Invitational at the par-71 Kingsmill River Golf Club in Williamsburg, VA. The Scarlet Knights finished in 10th place out of 19 teams in the two-day tournament with an aggregate score of 925 (314-302-309) for three rounds.

James Madison won the team tournament championship, carding an 896 (298-299-299) for three rounds. Individually, there was a three-way tie for first place with a six-over-par score of 219.

Leading the way for the Scarlet Knights was junior Brent Pittman (Montvale, NJ), who was within one stoke of the tournament title, finishing fourth overall individually with a seven-over-par score of 220 (79-70-71). He fired the second lowest round of the tournament with a one-under-par 70 during second round play.

Sophomore Jason Bataille (South Plainfield, NJ) carded a 227 (76-74-77) for three rounds to tie for 21st overall. Tying for 63rd place was sophomore Erick Morales (Bayamon, Puerto Rico), who shot a three-round score of 240 (79-84-77). Junior Brian Whitman (Blairstown, NJ) registered a 244 (80-78-86) for the tournament to place in a tie for 78th overall. Freshman Michael Kosup (Flemington, NJ) shot a 252 (88-80-84) in the tournament to tie for 86th in individual competition.

The men will head to Issue, MD, this Sunday through Monday, March 30-31 for the second of six tournaments they will compete in this season.
